A 48-hour guide to new experiences, dining destinations and family favourites worth discovering before summer ends.

Ain Alalam – Rashad Iskandrni

Before the school bags come back out, the alarms are reset and another new term begins, there’s still time to squeeze in one last family adventure.

For families across the GCC, Dubai is an easy choice for a quick getaway. A short flight – or even a drive – can turn the final days of the summer holidays into 48 hours of new experiences, great food and plenty of family time. And even if you’ve visited Dubai before, there’s always somewhere new to discover.

So pack an overnight bag, gather the family and make those last summer days count.

Check in, cool off and settle into holiday mode

Start your family getaway by checking into Address Downtown, one of the city’s most convenient family-friendly hotels. Located in the heart of Downtown Dubai, the property is connected directly to Dubai Mall via an enclosed walkway, meaning you can explore one of the world’s largest shopping and entertainment destinations without stepping outside.

For larger or multi-generational families, the hotel’s serviced residences offer up to four bedrooms, while rooms overlooking Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Fountain come with some of the city’s most recognisable views. There are also four swimming pools, a dedicated kids’ club, spa and fitness centre, giving everyone somewhere to unwind after the journey.

After checking in, take some time to unwind by the pool and enjoy the views before heading out to explore the city.

Eat, play and shop your way through the afternoon

Start with lunch at KLAY by Karak House, a contemporary Emirati restaurant known for its modern take on local flavours and its signature Paratha Burger – a must-try for anyone looking to experience Dubai’s homegrown dining scene.

Once everyone is fuelled up, it’s time for some family fun. For the competitive members of the family, Cube Challenges brings together a series of physical, mental, and skill-based games set within interactive rooms. It’s the kind of place where the children may walk in first, but the adults quickly end up joining them, testing their agility and problem-solving skills against the clock.

For something completely different, step inside Explorers Dubai at City Centre Mirdif, one of the city’s newest family attractions. Designed to turn play into discovery, the indoor destination combines energetic play with hands-on learning through interactive spaces. Children can climb, crawl and slide their way through the Wildwood Treetops or splash through River Play. It is an easy way to add something new, creative and educational to the afternoon.

Then leave some time for shopping, from Michael Kors and Massimo Dutti to beauty and skincare at Sephora, plus everyday favourites including Zara and H&M.

Before heading back for the evening, make a stop at Cherry House in Al Safa, one of Dubai’s most talked-about cafés right now. Known for its speciality coffee, artisan bakery and striking interiors, it’s quickly become one of those places visitors want to tick off their Dubai bucket list and a perfect spot to experience the city’s ever-growing café culture.

Try one of Downtown Dubai’s newer tables

As evening arrives, make dinner the next discovery.

Head to Ergon Agora, one of Downtown Dubai’s newest and most talked-about dining destinations. Inspired by the traditional Greek marketplace, the concept brings together a stylish restaurant, a 72-hour artisanal bakery and Tzeneral Pastry Shop, serving Greek desserts and freshly baked pastries. The menu features authentic Greek dishes such as the Shrimp Saganaki with tomato sauce and feta, grilled octopus with fava dip and slow-cooked beef cheeks. With its lively atmosphere and unique concept, it’s the perfect place to end a day exploring Downtown Dubai.

Day Two

Put the whole family to the test

Day Two starts with a challenge: how well does your family really work together?

At SENSAS Dubai, you’ll soon find out. The two-hour immersive experience puts all five senses to the test through a series of interactive challenges completed in teams. Families solve puzzles, navigate sensory experiences and work together in complete darkness, with plenty of opportunities to discover who stays calm under pressure – and who definitely doesn’t.

It’s unexpected, interactive and, most importantly, something the whole family can experience together.

Lunch with a view

After all that problem-solving, lunch is well earned.

Head to Culinara Social Dining, one of Dubai’s most exciting dining concepts. Located inside The Link at One Za’abeel, suspended around 100 metres above the city, Culinara offers panoramic skyline views alongside a collection of chef-led restaurants under one roof. Unlike a traditional food hall or buffet, each concept is independently operated, allowing every member of the family to order exactly what they feel like – from Asian and Middle Eastern flavours to European favourites – all while dining together. Families visiting on Sundays can join The Family Table, where children can enjoy games and face painting at the KidsOnly zone.

If there’s room for one more coffee, stop at ONA Coffee Dubai, one of the city’s latest coffee hotspots and the first international outpost of Australia’s acclaimed speciality coffee brand. Set inside a distinctive burnt-orange villa, the café has become a favourite thanks to its expertly brewed coffee, stylish interiors and all-day menu – a must-visit for discovering Dubai’s trendiest new spots.

Squeeze in one last family adventure

There’s still time for one more round of family fun before heading home.

Spend the last afternoon at Dubai Festival City Mall, a favourite among families thanks to its wide mix of shopping, dining and entertainment.

Children can burn off any remaining energy at Hello Park, an interactive play destination that combines colourful projections, multimedia games and imaginative storytelling, or enjoy classic rides and arcade games at Fabyland. Dinosaur fans shouldn’t miss Dinosaurs – The Immersive Odyssey, where prehistoric creatures are brought to life through immersive technology.

One last dinner before home

Stay at the mall and head to The Market Island, the Middle East’s largest food hall. Home to dozens of dining concepts, it’s the perfect place for families with different tastes. If you’re craving authentic Arabic cuisine, Al Beiruti and Al Fanar Restaurant & Cafe are both excellent choices to end your Dubai adventure on a delicious note.

With full stomachs and plenty of new memories, it’s time to bring the weekend to a close.

With the new school term just around the corner, there’s still time to make the most of the last days of summer. Whether Dubai is already a regular family favourite or it’s been a while since your last visit, there’s always something new to come back for, from the latest experiences and dining spots to familiar places that the whole family loves. So before the school bags come back out and the usual routine begins, make room for one more weekend together – and a few more summer memories along the way.
